Solstice LORE you will ADORE

Season's Greetings!

The winter solstice will occur precisely on Saturday December 22 @ 1:08 A.M. EST!!!

This marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The sun appears at its lowest point in the sky, and its noontime elevation appears to be the same for several days before and after the solstice.

Hence the origin of the word solstice, which comes from Latin solstitium, from sol, ?sun? and -stitium, ?a stoppage.? Following the winter solstice, the days begin to grow longer and the nights shorter.

It appears that the LIGHT has returned - hence THE RETURN OF THE LIGHT! This sounds similar to Christmas does it not? The return of the light of the world? In fact - many major religions use LIGHT as the essence of this season due to the importance of the solstice. Hanukkah is known as the Festival of Lights | Christmas is the Return of the Light (Christ) | Kwanzaa is Lighting a Candle each day! There are MANY more! ALL IS ONE!

Ancient ways of celebrating this scientific point in time and space have always been with gifts! The actual meaning of the "gift" is symbolic. If the days were to continue getting shorter - even for two more days past the solstice period of the year - human beings would not be able to exist on planet Earth. There would not be enough light into the pineal gland for us to survive - same for plants and animals!

So the RETURN OF THE LIGHT (days getting longer again) is thought to be a MAJOR GIFT!

Thus - we give gifts! Get the symbolism here?
